HOT 4 miler

92 degrees will make the heart rate soar. 92 degrees and an 8:40 pace for 4 miles up and down nothing but hills will make you average 90% of your max heart rate. I figured that since I had already pushed a 190 average... why not sprint that last 100 meters just for extra pain since I heard the footsteps of another runner behind me.

Tonight's run just about whipped me. I used my GPS to pace myself, which was nice. Sometimes it's enough just to know you're hurting. Yeah, I went too hard and will probably pay for it later. 90% of your HR is not a good base builder even if the heat and hills elevated things. However, I think that's the furthest I've ever run and I had lots of gas in the tank when I got back. I don't know how much faster I could have run the hills though. I did want to be able to at least hobble around at work in the morning. I have to get faster on my distance or find someone who wants to run the 400 to run against.

Stats:
4 miles
34:40
545 calories
190 average
Pushed myself to go harder longer, looking forward to a rest day :)

AM update:
Weird... I'm not really too sore from the run. No knee pain, no shin splints, nothing but the normal stuff after a hard day... Maybe my stratagey of running shorter distances for a few weeks paid off.

I'm ready to do sprint work any time! Let me know. I won't be in the 4 minute mile category though.

Cool! Maybe a little group sprint workout will spice up running.
