5k Race Goals

The Kiwanis 5k is this Saturday, it's time put some goals out there. My finish time goal is a vague sub 24 minutes (sub 7:44 min/mile pace). I'd also like to get across the line before Monty and Toby have time to cool down completely :)

I plan on running negative heart rate splits. I'm shooting for 91% (195 bmp) for the first mile, 94% (199 bmp) on the second mile. 97% (205 bmp) until I can see the finish line, then sprint. This will end up being a 94% total average heart rate for the 5k.

Race prediction via the fancy online formulas are all over the place. 15:53 is given based on my fastest unofficial mile time (lol... there's no way that's going to happen!). My only known race 5k time plugged into the prediction puts my best mile prediction at 7:06. I can match that time easily running at 85%. I've found that these formulas are better indicators for good aerobic performers and I tend to be better in anaerobic mode than endurance races. This really indicates to me that I need to continue working on my aerobic base conditioning.
