Long Run

I ran 7 miles with an average 8:25 min/mile pace tonight including some tougher hills and some warmup running.  I had the same issue with my right arch rubbing in new shoes around mile 6 as I did last Monday.  I don't know if it's a sock issue or shoe issue.  I plan on trying a pair of cycling socks on the next long run to see if that makes a difference.  I think two more miles and I would have a blister on the arch.  Other than that, the new shoes are great.  I may try to run a 10k this weekend since I missed out on the Ray Tanner.  I think my goal would be to break 48 minutes for my first outing.  Still, I think my best bet will be in the 5k distance since I seem to have speed and no stamina.  I would view the 10k as a hard training run more than a race.

Habitat 10k this weekend hill be a tough one. The first 3 mi. will be the toughest. Maintain a steady pace through the hills. Then let it out the final half. This is the hood I usually run in.

Thanks for the tips. This race actually runs by my Grandfather's house. Looks tough, looks like my usual runs in my hood too. Really steep short hills vs. steep long hills. Should be interesting if I give it a shot.

"if" What's the harm? It seems to be the best way to train at race pace. Conquer 10k just below race pace, then think of the 5k. It will be much easier.

Two hours away from projects around the house and spending $25 is the harm. I see your point though. 10k races should help boost my aerobic endurance for the quicker 5ks.
